New Team Drivers – Andy Forrest & Jamie
***NEW DRIVER ANNOUNCEMENT***
RC Model Shop Direct is pleased to announce two new members to our increasing driver team.
Andy Forrest & Jamie
What we love about this duo is the family connection. It’s great to see two generations of family doing what they love to do and doing it together to keep the hobby alive.
Coming from the old school of RC Racing, Andy has a wealth of knowledge in the 1/8th Stockcar class and competed at the highest level in the sport!
It’s our pleasure to welcome Andy and Jamie to the RCMSD team.
Here are a few words from Andy:-
I raced 1/8th Nitro stockcars back in 1979-1983 using the original Mardave stockcar kit with a Veco 21 engine. Spares were limited and tyre choice virtually none and the cars were heavy and crystal radio sets using splits. I actually qualified for the World Finals in Worthing in 1983 as a blue top.
I got back into the 1/8th racing scene after clearing out the loft at home and finding my original car which we cleaned and it ran with fresh fuel!
Todays race cars are all custom built, our current cars are Dick Batty Racing – DBR chassis and 3 port Picco 3.5cc engines and spares are a plenty, some cars are £1000 with strict rules to build weight etc.
Currently we are both members of NORA – Norther Oval Racing Affiliation based in Keighley although I do race at Nottingham, Leicester, Worthing and Brighton. Unfortunately, Jamie my Grandson who is on the Autism Spectrum has been unable to race for the past 18 months due to Covid restrictions, and the meetings this year have been NON points scoring so no grading – roof colour etc.
We are really pleased to be part of The RC Model Shop Direct team and can`t wait for the 2022 season to start so we can both be racing together.
If you see Andy track side then please say hello. Andy would more than happy to help or advise.
