New Team Driver – Andy “Kingstar” King
***NEW DRIVER ANNOUNCEMENT***
RC Model Shop Direct is delighted to announce a new member to our increasing driver team. This is a guy I have wanted to represent RCMSD for many years, not just because he’s a nice guy 😊 but his enthusiasm for the love of his passion is infectious!
Andy “Kingstar” King
I was first introduced to Andy 7 years ago when he came to drive at the old RCMSD drift venue. Since then, we have become good friends and I have said on many occasions “one day you will drive for RCMSD”.
Andy is known throughout the world of RC Drifting for his love of the hobby and of the people he shares it with. It’s our pleasure to welcome him to the RCMSD team.
Here are a few words from Andy:-
I am Andy “Kingstar” King age 44 from the UK. From a young age I was interested in radio control cars. I started at the age of 9 when I was lucky to get a fox buggy for a Christmas present and loved it ever since. Over the years I have had nitro buggies and touring cars, enjoying fun times with friends. I enjoyed carpark bashing and grass shredding but due to having no time to enjoy the cars, they sadly ended up in the shed.
One day I decided to get the old car going again and look for parts. I used to use the local model shops but now they had closed or stopped doing/selling nitro so I went online. The first search on the list was SoulRC which was local to me. It was an RC track and sold RC parts so I had to go down and have a look. Off I went with my nitro car. To my amazement I discovered RC drifting. I didn’t even know what a drift car was! That is where I met Mathew steel and James Simpson. They both showed me the art of counter steer, Japanese culture and the Japanese driving style. WOW!!!! I was blown away with this hobby straight away.
I was currently in the skateboarding scene, filming videos for a YouTube channel. I really wanted to film these cool looking cars so I came back and that’s when RCKINGSTAR was born! I could not believe how these cars drifted. I Was hooked from that moment on.
I started out with an MST MS01D RTR CS which I quickly upgraded. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of that chassis and then converted it to a RWD. That’s when I decided to give the SoulRC challenge competition a go and got 2nd in the RWD. Thanks to spending a lot of time practicing at Soul RC, I got to meet many members of the RC drift community from all over England. I had not realised that there were a few other RC drift tracks so that sparked off a adventure and I began travelling and trying to get to as many tracks as possible.
If you see Andy out and about at any of the great RC clubs we have in the UK please say hello. Andy would more than happy to help or advise.
